The People Behind Blackfield

Blackfield is the creative partnership of two remarkably different artists whose complementary strengths define the project's sound — supported by a core of seasoned musicians who bring it to life on record and on stage.

The Founders

Steven Wilson is the English musician, producer, and songwriter best known as the founder of Porcupine Tree. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist — guitar, keyboards, autoharp, flute, hammered dulcimer — he has collaborated with artists ranging from King Crimson to Opeth, Tears for Fears, and Marillion. His four Grammy nominations span solo work, his duo project Storm Corrosion, and Porcupine Tree. In 2015 he was crowned "King of Prog Rock" at the Progressive Music Awards in London, taking home three prizes in a single evening.

Aviv Geffen is one of Israel's most significant rock figures — singer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, and producer. A graduate of the Rimon School of Music, he became a generational voice in the 1990s, writing candidly about love, loss, politics, and the Israeli experience. His songwriting bears the fingerprints of Bowie, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Bob Dylan, refracted through a distinctly Israeli sensibility.

The Band

Seffy Efrati, bassist and longtime collaborator of Geffen, anchors Blackfield's live low end. His background spans Israeli pop and rock recordings — including sessions with Daniel Salomon and Ram Orion — and his melodic instincts complement the band's orchestral arrangements.

Daniel Salomon, born in Haifa, began playing piano at six and composing at twelve. He entered Geffen's world as pianist and orchestral arranger before releasing his own debut album, which became a radio hit in Israel and earned him a Composer of the Year award.

Chris Maitland, an English drummer trained at the Mackenzie School of Speech and Drama, brought broad theatrical and rock experience to the project. His CV includes extensive West End work and the international touring production of Mamma Mia, alongside his progressive rock credentials as a member of the supergroup Kino.
