The Blackfield Discography

Five studio albums tracing a steady arc from neo-progressive rock toward intimate, orchestral melancholy.

Blackfield is the collaborative project of Steven Wilson — founder of Porcupine Tree — and Israeli rock singer Aviv Geffen. Their partnership began after the two met in Israel following a Porcupine Tree show, and it has produced five studio albums that trace a steady arc from neo-progressive rock toward intimate, orchestral melancholy.

  1. 2004Blackfield — The debut. Wilson took lead vocals and played guitar and piano throughout; Geffen contributed backing vocals on select tracks. Signature songs include "Cloudy Now," "The Hole in Me," and "Open Mind."
  2. 2007Blackfield II — Recorded in London and Tel Aviv. Ten songs of sweeping strings, explosive guitars, and lush harmonies; includes a cover of Berry Sakharof's Hebrew classic "End of the World."
  3. 2011Welcome to My DNA — Geffen took creative control while Wilson was occupied with solo work. The album leans heavily on orchestral passages and doom-laden imagery, deepening the duo's Tears for Fears–meets–Pink Floyd palette.
  4. 2013Blackfield IV — Largely Geffen's vision, with Wilson contributing vocal assistance. Tracks like "X-Ray," "Firefly," and "Jupiter" mark a decisive shift from progressive rock toward melancholic pop.
  5. 2017Blackfield V — Co-produced with Alan Parsons and recorded over eighteen months across England and Israel. Wilson and Geffen share guitar, vocals, and keyboards; Tomer Z handles drums. The result is their most polished alt-pop statement.
Each album nudges the sound further from progressive rock — the journey from the debut's Porcupine Tree DNA to Blackfield V's shimmering pop craft is one of the more quietly remarkable transformations in modern art rock.
