The Band

Two Artists, One Sound

The collaboration of Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen — written across the distance between London and Tel Aviv.

Blackfield is the collaborative project of Steven Wilson — founder of Porcupine Tree and one of progressive rock's most restless minds — and Aviv Geffen, the Israeli singer-songwriter and cultural icon whose career has made him one of his country's most celebrated musicians. The two met in the late 1990s, recognised a shared melodic sensibility, and began writing together across the distance between London and Tel Aviv.

What emerged was something neither could have made alone: songs that sit at the intersection of pristine pop songwriting and art-rock atmosphere — melancholy, luminous, and immediately recognisable.

The Music

  1. 2004Debut album Blackfield released — lush strings, hushed vocals, a fully formed sound from the first track.
  2. 2007Blackfield II deepens the palette with darker textures and more expansive arrangements.
  3. 2011Welcome to My DNA marks a bolder, more rhythm-driven chapter.
  4. 2013IV — a Wilson-led record of spare, intimate songwriting.
  5. 2017V reunites both writers in full creative partnership.
  6. 2022For the Music released — the band's sixth studio album.

Across those records the core sound holds: melodies that linger, production that breathes, and lyrics that treat sadness not as a problem to solve but as something worth sitting with.

Why This Archive Exists

This is an independent fan archive — not an official Blackfield site. Everything here is built by listeners, for listeners, out of genuine love for the music.

Blackfield has always occupied an unusual space: too song-focused for the prog crowd, too atmospheric for mainstream pop. This archive exists to give that music the close attention it deserves — collecting news, reviews, and resources in one place for fans anywhere in the world.
